Gyeonggi-do Investigates Violations of the 'Livestock Epidemic Prevention Act' to Block AI
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is launching an intensive investigation into violations of the Livestock Epidemic Prevention Act, such as unregistered facility entry vehicles, targeting transport vehicles entering livestock farms within the province.
This is an emergency measure following the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza at two layer chicken farms located in Hyangnam-eup and Namyang-eup, Hwaseong City, on the 23rd.
The province announced that from the 26th of this month until the end of the avian influenza outbreak, it will conduct investigations into violations of the Livestock Epidemic Prevention Act targeting facility entry vehicles and others.
The investigation will focus on Hwaseong City, where the highly pathogenic avian influenza occurred, and the scope may be expanded depending on the spread within the province.
The main investigation points include unregistered facility entry vehicles and failure to install (or operate) GPS (Global Positioning System) devices.
According to the Livestock Epidemic Prevention Act, to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, vehicles entering poultry farms must be registered with local governments and equipped with GPS before operation.
Violations may result in imprisonment for up to one year or fines up to 10 million won.

Kim Min-kyung, head of the province's Special Judicial Police Unit, emphasized, "If unregistered vehicles enter poultry farms or vehicles are not equipped with or operated with GPS, early response measures such as epidemiological investigations of avian influenza become very difficult. We will strengthen investigations to prevent the spread of livestock epidemics during this challenging time of COVID-19."
