Gwangju Seo-gu Receives 'Chairperson Award of the Autonomy and Decentralization Committee' at the Chamjoheun Local Autonomy Policy Conference

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City recently announced on the 25th that it received the Autonomy Decentralization Committee Chairman Award at the ‘2021 Truly Good Local Autonomy Policy Competition.’

Co-hosted by the Truly Good Local Government Council, the National Association of Mayors, County Governors, and District Heads, and the Autonomy Decentralization Committee, this event was organized to widely promote excellent policies of local governments and to activate policy exchanges among local governments.

The policy competition involved 78 local governments nationwide, and 12 outstanding local governments were selected and awarded.

At this competition, Seo-gu presented the ‘Seo-gu-type Autonomy Community Strengthening Model,’ which establishes a stable institutional foundation to strengthen the practical authority of Seo-gu residents’ autonomy and realizes resident autonomy through revitalizing village communities under the theme ‘Residents as the Main! Realizing Local Community Resident Autonomy.’

Thanks to the promotion of such resident autonomy policies, Seo-gu has been selected as the top local government nationwide for six consecutive years in the ‘National Resident Autonomy Expo Best Practices.’

Seo-gu also received high praise as a leading local government in local autonomy by winning the grand prize in the autonomy decentralization reinforcement category at the ‘Governance Local Politics Awards’ and leading the spread of autonomy decentralization and resident autonomy.

A Seo-gu official said, “Through the Seo-gu-type Autonomy Community Strengthening Model, we are taking the lead in realizing a ‘people-centered’ happy Seo-gu,” adding, “We will continue to strive to discover and implement policies to improve residents’ quality of life.”
