Gyeonggi-do to Promote 'Industrial Tourism' at 42 Sites Including Breweries, Incineration Plants, and Car Showrooms
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is developing 42 industrial sites, including cosmetics factories, breweries, incineration plants, and car showrooms within the province, into industrial tourism complexes.
Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization announced on the 25th that they have selected 42 locations capable of operating industrial tourism programs and will actively promote industrial tourism projects starting this year.
Industrial tourism is a new tourism model that utilizes industrial facilities with cultural and social value as tourism resources.
Typical examples include visiting factories to observe food processing procedures or experiencing making traditional handicraft products firsthand.
Within the province, there is Goyang Hyundai Motorstudio in Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang City, the largest experiential automobile theme park in Korea.
Other industrial tourism attractions selected include Seoul Milk Cooperative (Yangju), the largest dairy factory in Asia; the Letterpress Printing Museum (Paju), where visitors can experience metal type printing techniques; Joeun Sul Brewery (Pyeongtaek), which reproduces the taste and aroma of traditional Korean liquor; Guri Resource Recovery Facility and Guri Tower (Guri), equipped with waste incineration and recycling facilities; and Kobica (Uijeongbu), a cosmetics manufacturing company.
Additionally, Kintex, theme museums, pottery kilns, eco-friendly farms, and rural experience villages are also included.
The province plans to develop and introduce tourism products and promotional content linked with nearby tourist attractions starting in February.
Familiarization tours for the travel industry will also be flexibly operated in small groups according to COVID-19 quarantine measures.
Promotional e-books and guide maps introducing these 42 industrial tourism resources can be viewed in the publications section on the Gyeonggi Tourism Portal website (ggtour.or.kr).
