Kim Yong-bin, Chairman of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Construction, Appointed Deputy Head of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics Delegation
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Chairman Kim Yongbin was appointed as the deputy head of the national team for the Beijing Winter Olympics, following his role in the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games.
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Construction, a subsidiary of Korea Technology (Chairman Kim Yongbin), announced on the 25th that its chairman Kim Yongbin was finally appointed as the deputy head of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics team.
The newly appointed Deputy Head Kim Yongbin, who is currently serving as chairman of the curling division, is also known to be in charge of alpine skiing, luge, bobsleigh, skeleton, and other events using the Yanqing athlete village. Deputy Head Kim is scheduled to depart for Beijing with the main delegation on the 31st.
Deputy Head Kim has been connected to the sports world, having served as the 10th president of the Korea Canoe Federation from 2017 to 2020.
At the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, he formed the North-South unified canoe sprint team, achieving the first-ever gold medal in the history of international multi-sport events, and served as the deputy head of the delegation overseeing the Palembang region, gaining recognition for his sports diplomacy capabilities.
Last year, after being elected as the 9th president of the Korea Curling Federation, he swiftly reformed the curling community, which had been troubled by power abuse and chronic factionalism, stabilized the federation quickly, and achieved the historic feat of securing Olympic qualification three consecutive times, earning high praise for his leadership and crisis management skills.
Deputy Head Kim Yongbin said, “I am very honored to be appointed as the deputy head of the Olympic team, the world’s largest festival,” and added, “I will actively support the athletes who have worked hard for the Olympics to perform at their best, drawing on my experience as deputy head of the Asian Games team.”
