"Using It All Doesn't Mean It's All Used," ESG Management Is Like This... Air Busan Flight Attendant's Carrier Becomes New Keyring Product
The Transformation of Discarded Crew Bags and Wetsuits
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Used flight attendants' carry-on luggage has been transformed into a new keyring product.
Air Busan has ventured into producing upcycling products by utilizing discarded flight attendants' carry-on luggage.
Air Busan, together with the upcycling social enterprise 'Eco in Blank,' released a 'keyring' made from old flight attendants' carry-on luggage and wetsuits.
The keyring is designed in the shape of a whale's fin, an endangered animal. The front side is made from discarded flight attendants' carry-on luggage fabric, and the back side is made from discarded wetsuit fabric.
Carry-on luggage is an essential item for flight attendants and is replaced every 2 to 3 years on average. When worn out to the point of being unusable, all are discarded.
Wetsuits are mostly made of synthetic rubber, which is difficult to maintain, often causing the fabric to tear or crack, leading to easy disposal.
The social enterprise 'Eco in Blank,' which collaborated with Air Busan on this product, is an eco-friendly upcycling company recognized for its design, having won the Red Dot Award, one of the world's top three design awards, and the Gold Award in the Fashion Accessory category at the 2017 Hong Kong DFA (Design for Asia) Awards.
Air Busan plans to sell this new keyring product onboard its flights, with the proceeds to be used as a fund for cleaning the Busan sea.
Additionally, there are plans to produce more upcycling products by recycling various discarded materials such as flight attendant uniforms.
