View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] On the 21st, Hong Joon-pyo, a member of the People Power Party, expressed anger toward the 'Yunhaekgwan' (key associates of Yoon Seok-yeol). Since it became known that he requested strategic nominations for former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung and others during a meeting with presidential candidate Yoon Seok-yeol on the 19th, he has been visibly uncomfortable with the 'old-fashioned' criticisms directed at him.
On the 21st, Hong stated on Facebook, "The media strategy of the Yunhaekgwan, who are trying to label me as an old-fashioned politician over the collapse of my joining the election campaign headquarters, is almost identical to when the Moon administration slandered me during the disguised peace local elections in June 2018," adding, "When Party Leader Lee Jun-seok continuously raised issues about the Yunhaekgwan, I thought it couldn't be true, but after experiencing it firsthand, they are truly insidious people."
It is known that during the dinner meeting with candidate Yoon on the 19th, Hong requested strategic nominations for the by-elections, recommending former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung for Jongno, Seoul, and former Daegu Suseong District Mayor Lee Jin-hoon for Jung and Nam districts in Daegu. In response, Election Headquarters Chief Kwon Young-se said the previous day, "If you are a party leader-level figure, you should act appropriately as a leader during this critical presidential election period," which was interpreted as a direct attack on Hong.
On the morning of the same day, Hong posted a total of four posts on Facebook targeting the Yunhaekgwan. He wrote, "No matter how chaotic politics has become, how can we discuss national affairs if two people meeting to discuss party issues are exposed as old-fashioned nomination demands and slandered? Turning a nomination recommendation made in a friendly atmosphere, which was meant to help the presidential election, into a condition for joining the campaign headquarters and labeling strategic discussions as old-fashioned to evade the essence is simply unacceptable," he criticized.
He also explained, "It was a friendly dinner lasting two and a half hours without any disagreements. The nomination recommendation issue took less than a minute at the very end, and the rest of the time was a fruitful discussion on future presidential election strategies."
Furthermore, Hong pointed out, "However, the next day, suddenly, subordinates took the lead and seized on the nomination recommendation issue, which was not even a joining condition but a brief proposal, attacking me as an old-fashioned politician and even involving the naive former Chairman Choi to criticize me," adding, "At the very least, the cause of the breakdown in the agreement must be corrected. Such slanderous politics must not be allowed."
