[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 20th that it has formed a dedicated investigation team led by the Pohang Branch Chief in relation to the industrial accident fatality that occurred at POSCO Pohang Steelworks.
The Ministry is working with related organizations such as the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency to ascertain the details of the accident. Partial work stoppage has been ordered at the Pohang Steelworks. The Ministry stated, "We will thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident and any violations of safety measures by those responsible and take strict action."
However, the Serious Accident Punishment Act, scheduled to be enforced on the 27th, does not apply to this accident.

According to POSCO and the Pohang Nambu Police Station, at around 9:47 a.m. on the day, a worker belonging to a subcontractor who was monitoring safety for steam pipe insulation work at the Hwaseong Section 3 Coke Plant of Pohang Steelworks was struck by a charging vehicle and was transported to the hospital but died.
