Justice Party Files Injunction to Ban Broadcast of Yangja TV Debate
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 20th, the Justice Party announced that it has filed an injunction request to ban the broadcast against the three terrestrial broadcasters in response to the 'one-on-one TV debate' between Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Yoon Seok-youl, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party.
On the same day, Lee Dong-young, the chief spokesperson of the Justice Party, held a briefing at the National Assembly Communication Office and said, "The one-on-one debate broadcast, which damages the political independence of broadcasting, infringes on the public's right to know, and undermines the fairness of the election, should be stopped immediately."
Lee criticized, "Both candidates, Lee Jae-myung and Yoon Seok-youl, have avoided the special prosecutor, which is the judicial verification stage for their allegations, and now colluding to monopolize the public resource of broadcasting for the TV debate, which is the public's verification stage, is a clear arrogance and deception of the people."
He added, "The unfair 'one-on-one debate,' which seriously infringes on the public's right to know and political rights, must be stopped immediately," and said, "If the two candidates are confident, there is no reason not to participate in a multi-candidate debate." He emphasized, "Stop the quarrel outside the ring and come into the ring to have a real fight about the people's livelihood and the future of the Republic of Korea."
