View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on the 19th a pledge to fully implement military injury insurance to cover accident damages and to expand the credits that can be earned online during military service so that soldiers can complete at least one semester while serving.
On the morning of the same day, candidate Lee announced this soldier welfare policy pledge.
The pledge consists of ▲full implementation of military injury insurance ▲improvement of outdated recruit training facilities ▲improvement of military meal system ▲expansion of military service credit acquisition ▲provision of E-Book points, among others.
Candidate Lee said, “We will fully implement the military service youth injury insurance system to cover all types of accident damages that may occur from the day of enlistment to the day of discharge and return home.”
Regarding the improvement of recruit training facilities, he emphasized, “We will safely renovate the aging dormitories and expand and improve dining halls, shower rooms, and restrooms with modern facilities.”
He also stated that to improve the quality of military meals, the number of civilian cooking personnel will be significantly increased.
Candidate Lee also pledged to expand the ‘military service experience credit recognition system’ to all universities. The credits that can be earned online will be expanded from the current 12 credits to more than 21 credits based on 18 academic weeks, allowing soldiers to complete at least one semester during military service. He added that learning conditions such as full tuition support will also be guaranteed.
