The Corruption Investigation Office Refuses Disclosure Request of Whistleblower Information in 'Kim Hak-ui Illegal Departure' Case
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jung] The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency is reported to have refused the request to disclose the communication warrant of Deputy Chief Prosecutor Jang Jun-hee, the whistleblower in the 'Kim Hak-ui illegal departure ban investigation obstruction suspicion' case.
According to the legal community on the 18th, the agency notified Deputy Chief Prosecutor Jang that disclosing the communication warrant could make the investigation difficult, thus refusing to disclose the warrant.
Earlier, during the investigation into the suspicion of Prosecutor General Lee Seong-yoon leaking the indictment, the agency obtained a communication warrant against Deputy Chief Prosecutor Jang and examined his call records.
Deputy Chief Prosecutor Jang claimed that the agency was conducting a 'targeted investigation' and earlier this month filed an information disclosure request with the agency regarding the contents of the communication fact confirmation data request (communication warrant request), the responsible prosecutor, and the judge who issued the warrant.
However, the agency notified a non-disclosure policy for all requested materials on the day, explaining that "the information is related to ongoing trials and matters concerning crime prevention, investigation, and prosecution, and if disclosed, there is a substantial reason that would significantly hinder the performance of duties."
