The previous highest number of new daily cases was 25,990, recorded on August 20 of last year (according to FNN data). On this day, the number of new cases by region was highest in Osaka Prefecture with 5,396 cases, followed by Tokyo Metropolis with 5,185 cases, Aichi Prefecture with 2,145 cases, and Hyogo Prefecture with 1,645 cases.
