US Bipartisan Senate Delegation Visits Ukraine..."Providing Weapons to Stop Russian Invasion"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] A bipartisan delegation of U.S. senators made a sudden visit to Ukraine, where military tensions with Russia are escalating, promising weapons support and more. This move is interpreted as an effort to check Russia amid strong concerns about a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine next month.
According to CNN and other foreign media on the 17th (local time), the U.S. Senate delegation, composed of seven Democratic and Republican senators, arrived in Kyiv to demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine and met consecutively with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other senior Ukrainian officials. They pledged additional weapons support to Ukraine to deter Russian aggression.
Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a member of the delegation visiting Ukraine, stated, "Our bipartisan delegation sends a clear message that the United States unwaveringly supports Ukraine's sovereignty against Russian attacks."
Rob Portman, a Republican member of the delegation, also emphasized, "Ukraine is striving to defend its territorial integrity against Russia while implementing reforms to strengthen democracy. U.S. support for Ukraine is more important than ever."
In addition to them, the delegation included Democratic Senators Chris Murphy, Kevin Cramer, Amy Klobuchar, and Richard Blumenthal, and Republican Senator Roger Wicker. This visit is seen as an effort to ease the heightened war tensions while showing political support for the government and pressuring Russia.
