Gwangyang City Holds Demonstration Event for Introduction of Agricultural Wearable Robots
Expectations for Revitalization and Competitiveness Enhancement of Gwangyang City Agriculture through the Spread of Smart Agriculture
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] On January 17, Gwangyang City in Jeonnam held a demonstration event for the introduction of agricultural wearable robots at the Gwangyang Horticultural Agricultural Cooperative Agricultural Products Distribution Center.
The demonstration was held to enhance understanding of the project prior to its introduction, aiming to increase the productivity of Gwangyang's agriculture and improve the quality of life for farmers by adopting advanced scientific farming technologies in response to changes in the agricultural environment in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Wearable robots are robotic technologies that can be worn like clothing and are gaining attention not only in the medical field but also in industries. The city predicts that wearable robots will spread in agriculture and is proactively introducing them to revitalize Gwangyang's agriculture and transition to smart farming.
The agricultural wearable robots showcased that day were of three types: ▲ carrying task assistive device in backpack form ▲ upward task assistive device in vest form ▲ downward task assistive device in chair form.
The city expects that agricultural wearable robots will provide the best working environment for workers involved in crop cultivation and harvesting, production site collection, and agricultural product distribution. If the demonstration results show good effectiveness, convenience, and safety, the city plans to secure the necessary budget and support farmers and producer organizations after conducting a demand survey.
A Gwangyang city official stated, “We anticipate that smart agriculture will expand from facility horticulture-centered smart farms to overall agriculture. By proactively adopting scientific agricultural policies, we will do our best to create a sustainable and competitive agricultural and rural environment that can continuously develop even in the post-COVID-19 era.”
