[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A child died after colliding with a guardrail at the luge ride facility within the Bomun Tourist Complex in Gyeongju, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
According to the Gyeongju Police Station and Fire Department in Gyeongbuk on the 17th, around 3:40 p.m. on the 16th, 7-year-old girl A was riding a luge at Gyeongju Luge World in Sinpyeong-dong, Gyeongju, when she collided with a guardrail. A was transported to the hospital but passed away around 6:10 p.m. that day.
The luge used at this facility is a special cart equipped with wheels instead of sled blades, operating without power to descend a sloped track as a recreational ride.
The police are focusing on the operational regulation that requires riders under 120 cm in height to be accompanied by a "guardian" and are investigating whether the accompanying rider, known to be a cousin, met the guardian qualification and complied with safety regulations.
Gyeongju Luge World opened last November on a 76,840㎡ site within the Bomun Tourist Complex, featuring a lift and two luge tracks.
