Special Lunar New Year Event Held at Traditional Markets in All Districts
Up to 30% Discount on Ancestral Rite Items, Onnuri Gift Certificates and Prizes Given to Customers
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 17th that it will hold a 'Lunar New Year Special Event' at 159 traditional markets in the city from the 17th to the 2nd of next month.
Seoul City has expanded the target of the holiday event support project in connection with the Seoul Merchants Association's subsidy project for this Lunar New Year and increased the support amount per market to 3.5 million KRW. The traditional markets and shopping districts participating in this event include a total of 159 locations such as ▲Gwangjang Market (Jongno-gu) ▲Sungnyemun Import Market (Jung-gu) ▲Huam Market (Yongsan-gu) ▲Geumnam Market (Seongdong-gu) ▲Gyeongdong Market (Dongdaemun-gu) ▲Hakdong Dokkaebi Market (Dobong-gu) ▲Guro Market (Guro-gu) ▲Cheonggwa Market (Yeongdeungpo-gu) ▲Pungnap Traditional Market (Songpa-gu).
During the event period, participating markets will offer discounts ranging from 5% to 30% so that citizens can purchase holiday ritual items and agricultural, fishery, and livestock products at affordable prices. Additionally, some markets will hold events where customers who pay with Zero Pay or purchase over a certain amount will receive Onnuri gift certificates, cooking oil, and other gifts. At Namseong Station Alley Market and Sadang 1-dong Food Alley Market, sharing events for vulnerable groups and the elderly will also be held.
To create a safe shopping environment and prevent the spread of COVID-19, Seoul City will conduct weekly disinfection at about 40 traditional markets where many citizens gather and provide quarantine supplies such as disinfectors, thermometers, and disinfectants to 369 traditional markets.
Furthermore, through special quarantine inspections for the Lunar New Year conducted by Seoul City and autonomous districts, the compliance status of quarantine rules in traditional markets will be proactively checked. They also plan to operate 40 quarantine personnel called 'Quarantine Guardians' to carefully ensure citizen safety.
To reduce inconvenience for citizens visiting traditional markets, from the 24th to the 2nd of next month, Seoul City will allow free parking and stopping on surrounding roads for up to 2 hours at an additional 57 markets, in addition to the 36 markets where year-round free parking and stopping have already been permitted.
