Where Are the 5 Missing Persons from the 'Gwangju Collapse Accident'? City Says "Focusing All Efforts"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Search efforts are intensifying for the five workers missing in the collapse accident at Gwangju Hwajeong I-Park.
According to the fire authorities on the 15th, from 8 a.m. that day, 205 rescue workers, 42 pieces of equipment, and 8 rescue dogs were deployed.
To find those buried under the debris, detectors and thermal imaging cameras are being used, and searches are being conducted from the 4th basement floor, which is accessible internally, up to the 23rd floor above ground.
The upper floors from the 24th floor are currently filled with debris, and there are cliff-like spaces, so searches using equipment such as endoscopes continue.
External searches, which have not yet secured stability, are being conducted using nine drones.
The tower crane attached to the building is currently tilted, raising concerns about a secondary collapse, and dismantling work is underway.
The construction company, Hyundai Development Company, plans to assemble a 1,200-ton dismantling crane over two days starting today and deploy it to the site.
Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop stated at a site briefing, "We are focusing all our capabilities on the rescue of the missing and prioritizing accident recovery."
However, he added, "There are risk factors everywhere at the accident site, and the rescue environment is unprecedentedly complex and difficult compared to any other disaster."
On the afternoon of the 11th, around 3:46 p.m., the outer wall of Building 201 from the 23rd to the 38th floor collapsed at the Hwajeong I-Park new construction site, resulting in one worker's death and five workers missing.
