Gwangju City Appoints Jeong Jang-woo as Political Special Advisor and Park Eun-cheol as Youth Special Advisor

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeong Jang-woo, former Senior Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party Gwangsan-eul District Committee, has been appointed as the new Political Special Advisor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, and Park Eun-cheol, Director of the Gwangju Youth Center, has been appointed as the Youth Special Advisor.
The Political Special Advisor plays a role in assisting the mayor by maintaining close cooperative relationships with the National Assembly, political parties, and civil society organizations, ensuring that the pressing local projects of Gwangju City proceed smoothly through external cooperation.
In particular, during the period leading up to the 20th presidential election, the advisor will act as a bridge between political parties to ensure that major regional long-standing projects are included in the presidential pledges.
The newly appointed Political Special Advisor Jeong Jang-woo previously served as the Head of the Open Civil Service Office in Gwangsan-gu, Director of the Gwangju Social Integration Support Center, and Senior Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party Gwangsan-eul District Party, and is recognized as a suitable candidate capable of communicating with external parties.
Additionally, Gwangju City has introduced the Youth Special Advisor position for the first time nationwide to reflect the diverse voices of the 2030 generation and youth groups in city administration.
The newly appointed Youth Special Advisor Park Eun-cheol is a former president of the student council at Chonnam National University and served as co-chairman of the National Federation of Public University Student Councils. He has also held positions as representative of the National Youth Committee Council, head of the Gwangju Youth Center Archive, director of the Gwangju Youth Library, and director of the Gwangju Youth Center.
While serving as the Operations Director of the Gwangju Cooperative Federation, he devoted efforts to developing cooperative-related policies and building networks among cooperatives. He actively participated in building a social community coexisting with nature by joining “Life ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) Action,” established to overcome the climate crisis.
During his tenure as Director of the Gwangju Youth Center, he developed policies that allowed youth direct participation and action, proposing them to related organizations.
Advisor Park is a prominent local youth activist actively engaged across political, economic, social, and cultural fields, and is expected to present various measures regarding Gwangju City’s youth policies.

Kim Yong-man, the city’s Personnel Policy Officer, stated, “The Political Special Advisor and Youth Special Advisor will serve as stepping stones to reflect the voices of various social groups in city administration,” and added, “We expect them to fulfill their responsibilities during this critical period of seeking a major transformation for Gwangju.”
