Samsung Asset Management KODEX, China STAR50 ETF Listed on the STAR Market
Lowest Among China-Related ETFs with a Total Fee of 0.09%
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Samsung Asset Management announced on the 12th that it will list the 'KODEX China STAR50 on the Science and Technology Innovation Board (Synthetic) ETF,' the first ETF in Korea to invest in the Science and Technology Innovation Board of the Shanghai Stock Exchange in China.
The Science and Technology Innovation Board, launched in July 2019 as an independent market on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, is a securities market established to facilitate capital raising for innovative technology companies in China. Often called the Chinese Nasdaq, it consists of next-generation IT technology, high-performance equipment, new materials, new energy, and pharmaceutical-related companies nurtured by the Chinese government as part of the new economy. Compared to existing mainland China indices (Shanghai Composite, CSI300, etc.) and Hong Kong representative indices (HSCEI, etc.), it has a higher weighting in information technology (IT), healthcare and bio, and new materials sectors.
The KODEX China STAR50 on the Science and Technology Innovation Board (Synthetic) ETF tracks the STAR50 index, which consists of 50 blue-chip companies listed on the Science and Technology Innovation Board. The total expense ratio is 0.09%, the lowest among China-related ETFs. As of the end of last year, the sector allocation is IT 52.7%, Industrials 21.4%, and Healthcare 12.2%. The portfolio includes SMC, China's largest semiconductor foundry company, at 8.5%, Beijing Kingsoft, a software company, at 6.7%, and Shenzhen Transsion Holdings, a mobile phone manufacturer, at 5.4%.
Im Taehyuk, Head of ETF Management at Samsung Asset Management, said, "Currently, direct investment by individual investors in the Science and Technology Innovation Board market is restricted, so individual investors who wish to invest can use the KODEX China STAR50 on the Science and Technology Innovation Board (Synthetic) ETF." He added, "It is possible to invest through all accounts, including pension savings accounts, retirement pension accounts, and intermediary ISA accounts."
