Gwanghwamun Area Transformed with 5G Immersive Content
Ministry of Culture and Korea Creative Content Agency Unveil 'Gwanghwawon' and 'Gwanghwain'
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency will unveil two additional 'Gwanghwa Era' contents at 2 p.m. on the 14th at Metro Museum of Art, Gyeongbokgung Station, Hall 2. These are the urban media art garden 'Gwanghwa Garden' and the AI guide center 'Gwanghwa-in.'
'Gwanghwa Era' is a project combining cultural and tourism content with 5G immersive technology. It creates an experiential space in Gwanghwamun, a center of history, culture, and art, to promote Korean technology and culture to the world. There are eight contents in total. Starting with the 5G-based real-time performance 'Gwanghwa Pungnyu' on the 17th of last month, the contents will be sequentially released until 'Gwanghwa Mural' on the 25th of next month.
'Gwanghwa Garden' is an immersive media park. It reinterprets and implements real-time natural scenery through image processing artwork. The themes are life and communication, and eternal light. It presents videos and sounds that change according to the weather conditions of the Han River in Seoul and Gyeongju as media art. Visitors can also enjoy works by the world-renowned media art group Universal Everything and German artist Timo Helgert. An official said, "It provides visitors with time for healing and meditation."
'Gwanghwa-in' is an immersive information center based on machine learning AI. It provides tourist information around Gwanghwamun to domestic and international tourists in various languages (Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese). Videos and voices of real people were synthesized and filmed, then reborn as AI humans through deep learning. Minho of the group SHINee and Maria from 'Miss Trot' participated as models. An official explained, "The visual model videos filmed with 3D 360-degree stereoscopic imaging techniques offer a special experience as if you are face-to-face and conversing with the actual person."
