Jeju Air, No.1 in Domestic Passenger Transport for Two Consecutive Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Jeju Air announced on the 11th that it transported over 6.45 million passengers on domestic routes last year, securing the number one market share. This marks the second consecutive year of maintaining the top position since 2020.
Jeju Air analyzed the domestic passenger transport performance of Korean airlines last year using statistics from Korea Airports Corporation and found that it transported a record-high 6,459,000 passengers (based on paying passengers). This is an increase of more than 2 million compared to 4,325,000 passengers in 2020.
As the number of passengers increased, Jeju Air's domestic passenger market share also rose by 2.3 percentage points from 17.2% in 2020 to 19.5% last year.
Last year, Jeju Air's domestic passenger count exceeded that of the second-largest domestic airline, which transported about 5.81 million passengers, by more than 640,000 passengers.
Among Jeju Air's domestic passengers, approximately 5.15 million traveled on Jeju-origin routes such as Jeju~Gimpo, Busan, Cheongju, and Daegu, accounting for 79.8% of the total. Inland routes like Gimpo~Busan and Gimpo~Yeosu accounted for 20.2%, or about 1.3 million passengers. By route, about 2.43 million passengers, or 38% of the total, used the Jeju~Gimpo route, followed by the Gimpo~Busan route (920,000 passengers) and the Jeju~Busan route (730,000 passengers).
Jeju Air analyzed that the cause of maintaining the number one market share in passenger transport for two consecutive years was due to the flexible operation of aircraft and continuous increase in domestic seat supply, following the launch of new Jeju~Yeosu and Gunsan routes in 2020.
