Kim Sang-cheol, Hancom Chairman, "Discussing Metaverse Company Acquisition at CES"
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Hancom Group is pursuing acquisitions of companies related to the metaverse.
Kim Sang-cheol, Chairman of Hancom Group, held a press conference on the 7th (local time) at CES 2022, the world's largest electronics and IT exhibition held in Las Vegas, USA, stating, "At this CES, we met with American metaverse startups, artificial intelligence (AI) companies capable of operating augmented reality (AR) avatar services, and non-fungible token (NFT) companies to discuss acquisitions and technology partnerships."
Chairman Kim explained, "We are not simply creating avatars as models identical to humans, but are developing the application logic of avatars and preparing services that create avatars in the form of alter egos. Although I cannot disclose specific details, we plan to equip avatars with various services."
He added, "Before coming to CES, we proceeded with the acquisition of a metaverse avatar company and are preparing additional acquisitions of metaverse services."
Hancom Group is scheduled to launch 'Sejong 1,' the country's first private earth observation satellite, on June 1 this year. Chairman Kim said, "With the launch of this artificial satellite, we plan to secure various video data," and added, "We will create diverse ecosystems and develop services to utilize this data throughout daily life."

He also stated, "Starting with Sejong 1, we plan to continue launching satellites, including five more units in the future."
