Temporary Child Support Emergency Assistance Criteria to Be Relaxed
Support Amount for Low-Income Single-Parent Families Increased from 100,000 to 200,000 Won
for 3-Person Households with Median Income from 60% to 75% Threshold
2,516,000 Won → 3,146,000 Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will relax the income criteria for temporary emergency child support starting this year.
On the 9th, the Ministry announced that it will adjust the income criteria for temporary emergency child support from 60% or less of the median income (2,516,000 KRW per month for a family of three) to 75% or less (3,146,000 KRW per month for a family of three).
This is to alleviate the child-rearing burden on single parents who are struggling because they do not receive child support from the child support obligor.
In addition, for children of low-income single-parent families receiving child-rearing expenses (below 52% of the median income), the temporary child support amount will be increased from the previous 100,000 KRW per month to 200,000 KRW per month.
Temporary emergency child support is a system that provides temporary emergency child support to the caregiving parent when child support is not received from the non-custodial parent, endangering the welfare of the child, in order to create a stable caregiving environment.
Since the introduction of the temporary emergency child support system in 2015, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family has paid 1.12 billion KRW to 1,415 minor children over seven years.
