Seoul City Conducts Emergency Fire Safety Inspections at 599 Warehouse Facilities
Emergency Special Inspection of Warehouse Facilities and COVID-19 Related Facilities in Seoul Until the 25th
Proactive Inspection of 773 Construction Sites Over 2000㎡ in Total Floor Area
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 10th that it will conduct an emergency special fire inspection of all warehouse facilities in Seoul in relation to the fire at the logistics center construction site in Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do.
There are a total of 599 warehouse facilities registered in Seoul. Warehouse facilities are vulnerable to fire compared to general buildings due to the large amount of stored goods, mechanical equipment, and the installation of refrigerated and frozen warehouses. In particular, buildings using sandwich panels for exterior materials are difficult to extinguish in case of fire.
Accordingly, to strengthen fire prevention and safety management of warehouse facilities, an emergency special fire investigation will be conducted by each fire station from the 7th to the 25th. The special investigation will be conducted by visiting the site to check the maintenance of fire facilities and the actual performance of fire safety management tasks.
In addition, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters will also conduct special fire inspections on COVID-19 related facilities where human casualties are a concern in case of fire, as well as fire safety management at large construction sites. COVID-19 related facilities include 713 locations such as infectious disease dedicated hospitals, residential treatment centers, and nursing hospitals. Besides checking the maintenance of fire facilities, it will also verify whether evacuation plans considering quarantine measures have been established.
Large construction sites are targeted for those with a total floor area of 2,000 square meters or more, totaling 773 locations. The fire station chiefs in charge will directly inspect the sites, check temporary fire facilities, and guide compliance with safety rules during welding and cutting work.
