North Korea "Must Lay Foundation for This Year's 5-Year Plan"... Nationwide 'Mobilization Rally'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] North Korea has designated this year as a year to lay the foundation for the 5-year plan and urged the achievement of results to meet its goals.
The Workers' Party organ, Rodong Sinmun, stated on the 8th in an article titled "This Year is a Smooth Road for the 5-Year Plan Implementation, a Year to Lay the Foundation," saying, "This year is a very important year for the implementation of the 5-year plan."
The newspaper emphasized, "How we struggle this year will determine the prospects for the implementation of the 5-year plan," and "Laying a solid foundation and smooth road for the 5-year plan implementation this year is an essential requirement to open a firm prospect for the enforcement of the Party Congress decisions."
North Korea established a 5-year plan for national economic development and defense development through the 8th Party Congress in January last year, and showcased the achievements of the first year at the year-end plenary meeting. This year, marking the second year, it is necessary to strive to achieve the goals set in the 5-year plan.
The newspaper stated, "Despite the worst conditions last year, we achieved meaningful and valuable results in enforcing the Party Congress decisions and improving people's lives," but warned, "If we falter or delay even slightly this year, all the hard-earned achievements will be wasted, and harsher challenges and difficulties will accumulate on the path of progress," urging not to lower vigilance.
In an editorial titled "Finding Shortcomings Even in Achievements is the Attitude of a Revolutionary," also published on the same day, the newspaper said, "To turn victory into a greater victory, we must guard against complacency and self-praise and encourage self-criticism and reflection," urging not to be satisfied with the first year's achievements but to "always ponder and deliberate for innovation and development."
