Hamyang-gun Expands Support for Pregnancy and Childbirth Medical Expense Subsidies in 2022
Introduced to Increase Birth Rate and Create a Healthy Delivery Environment
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 5th that from January 2022, the support amount for pregnancy and childbirth medical expenses will be expanded from 800,000 KRW to 1,200,000 KRW for a single pregnancy, and from 1,200,000 KRW to 1,600,000 KRW for multiple pregnancies (two or more children).
This pregnancy and childbirth medical expense support system was introduced in 2008 to increase the birth rate and create a healthy childbirth environment.
It is an additional benefit of health insurance paid through the National Happiness Card, which can be used at medical institutions for pregnancy and childbirth-related medical expenses.
The usage period is extended from the current 1 year after childbirth (including miscarriage and stillbirth) to 2 years, and the support items are also expanded to cover all medical expenses related to pregnancy and childbirth, as well as the purchase of medicines and treatment materials.
Additionally, the use for infant medical treatment and purchase of medicines and treatment materials is extended from under 1 year old to under 2 years old.
For in-person applications, applicants can submit the ‘Pregnancy and Childbirth Medical Expense Payment Application’ issued by an obstetrics and gynecology specialist at the National Health Insurance Corporation or banks (card companies). For online applications, pregnant women can enter pregnancy and childbirth (including miscarriage and stillbirth) information on the Medical Institution Information Plaza website through an obstetrics and gynecology clinic, and then choose to apply via the Corporation, banks (card companies), phone, or Government24.
