Mayor Park Hyung-jun Holds 8th 'Open Campus Meeting'... Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration in Tourism, MICE, and K-Content
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] On the afternoon of the 5th, Busan City held an ‘Open Campus Meeting’ at Yeongsan University to discuss industry-academia cooperation plans for fostering industries such as tourism, MICE, and K-content.
The ‘Open Campus Meeting’ is an event where Mayor Park Hyung-jun visits universities in the Busan area to explore specialized industry-academia cooperation projects unique to each university with universities, companies, and students, and discuss ways for mutual development.
Starting with Dong-Eui Science University in June, Mayor Park is holding his eighth meeting at Yeongsan University on the 5th.
The event is held under the theme ‘Busan’s New Leap Forward with Tourism, MICE, and K-Content.’
Attendees include Mayor Park Hyung-jun, Yeongsan University President Bu Gu-wook, Tourzi CEO Kim Nam-jin, a micro electric vehicle sharing service company, For You Communications CEO Park Sang-won, an exhibition convention event company, Welfare Plan CEO Lee Hyun-jin, a social enterprise that developed the country’s first marine tourism product using a water wheelchair, and Yeongsan University students Shin Min-hwa, Shim Hye-rin, Gu Bon-ho, Kim Dong-hyun, and Seo Seung-wan.
The participants will listen to Busan City’s efforts to attract the 2030 Busan World Expo and discuss and exchange opinions on fostering local tourism and MICE talent, creating a MICE ecosystem, support policies for tourism vulnerable groups, research and investment in metaverse platforms, and plans to foster the webtoon sector.
Before the event, Mayor Park will visit the marine leisure simulator, aviation safety training room, and webtoon library set up within Yeongsan University’s Hotel and Tourism College to observe Yeongsan University’s field-centered educational curriculum.
Mayor Park is also scheduled to watch a VR drawing performance by Professor Lim Sang-guk of the Game VR Department and student Kim Dong-hyun.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “Universities that move quickly and innovate with the changes of the times have a future, and Busan City will support research and development through industry-academia cooperation with such universities. We will also work to discover new business items and brand Busan’s unique MICE.”

In December 2021, Busan City signed a business agreement to establish an industry-academia cooperation system for global MICE talent development with five local MICE hub universities including Yeongsan University and Pusan National University, the Busan Convention Industry Association, and the Busan Tourism MICE Promotion Association.
