Suwon City Partners with Hamkkeutneun Sesang to Support 'Home Repairs for Vulnerable Groups'
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province is collaborating with the non-profit organization 'Hamkkeutneun Sesang' to support home repairs for vulnerable housing groups. Hamkkeutneun Sesang is an organization that provides housing environment improvement services aimed at offering a comfortable environment to vulnerable groups such as elderly people living alone and low-income families with poor housing conditions.
On the 4th, Suwon City announced that Hamkkeutneun Sesang will sponsor necessary materials and volunteer manpower for home repairs for 100 vulnerable households in the Suwon area this year.
All households unable to carry out home repairs on their own, regardless of whether they receive basic living subsidies, are eligible for support.
Hamkkeutneun Sesang supports wallpapering, flooring installation, LED lighting replacement, electrical wiring, mold removal, and insulation wallpaper installation. Additionally, for households with 'hoarding disorder' that do not discard items but accumulate them inside the home, they provide waste disposal and house cleaning services. Furthermore, for elderly people living alone and households with disabled members, they install beds and shelving for organizing belongings, and for homes using briquette heating or lacking heating facilities, they install electric ondol heating systems.
The city selects households in need of home repairs recommended by the neighborhood offices (dong), verifies their suitability, and refers those deemed in need of support to Hamkkeutneun Sesang.
Hamkkeutneun Sesang began home repair volunteer work in 2016 and has supported home repairs for over 1,200 households as of November last year. The number of volunteers has reached 1,550.
A city official emphasized, "The support from the non-profit organization Hamkkeutneun Sesang will be a great help to citizens living in poor conditions," adding, "We will do our best to identify households in need and improve their housing environment."
