This is the PGA Tour Playoffs (PO) first-place bonus. It increased by $3 million from last year's $15 million. The 2021/2022 season resumes at the Sentry Tournament (total prize money $8.2 million) opening on the night of the 6th (Korean time). After completing nine events since last September, known as the 'fall series,' the full-fledged season effectively starts now. The four major championships follow: the Masters in April, the PGA Championship in May, the US Open in June, and The Open in July.
It is interesting that the Farmers Open (total prize money $8.4 million) will start on Wednesday and end on Saturday local time at the end of this month. This scheduling avoids the Sunday conference championship games of the NFL, which 80% of Americans watch. The May Wells Fargo Championship will be held for the first time outside North Carolina, at Potomac TPC in Maryland. This is because the Presidents Cup, an international team golf competition between the US and the International team, will be held at the fiercely competitive Quail Hollow Golf Club.
The Mexican Open (total prize money $7.3 million) is scheduled the week right before the Wells Fargo Championship. It appears that national title tournaments will be held in five countries: the US (US Open), the UK (The Open), Canada (Canadian Open), Scotland (Scottish Open), and Mexico. The Genesis Scottish Open (total prize money $8 million), a warm-up event for The Open, has especially gained prestige this year as it is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour (European Tour) since last year.
