US CDC Strengthens Cruise Travel Warning: "Don't Board Even If Vaccinated"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has strengthened its recommendation to avoid cruise travel regardless of vaccination status.
On the 30th (local time), the CDC raised the travel advisory for cruise travel to Level 4.
Level 4 is the highest rating, meaning "avoid all travel," which is one step above Level 3, which advised "complete vaccination before cruise travel."
This decision by the CDC follows recent reports of consecutive COVID-19 infections on cruise ships.
From the 15th to the day before, about 5,000 confirmed cases were reported on cruise ships operating with passengers in U.S. waters. From the 1st to the 14th, there were only 162 cases.
The CDC warned, "On ships, the virus can easily spread among passengers in close proximity," and added, "Cruise travelers are at a higher risk of severe COVID-19." It also noted, "Even with a booster shot, the likelihood of contracting COVID-19 is very high."

Despite these warnings, the CDC recommends that those planning to travel on cruises must be vaccinated and receive a booster shot before traveling. Additionally, those who are not vaccinated must self-quarantine for five days after travel.
