Korea Science and Technology Association to Announce Selection Results on the 29th
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] This year, the top issues in South Korea's science and technology were selected as the launch of the first Korean independent launch vehicle 'Nuriho', COVID-19 vaccination and the emergence of variant viruses, and the dawn of the metaverse era.
The Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies announced the 'Top 10 Science and Technology News of the Year' on the 29th. In the 'Science and Technology Issues' category, four news items were selected: ▲ Korean space launch vehicle Nuriho launch 'unfinished success' ▲ COVID-19 vaccination and the emergence of variant viruses ▲ Science and technology opening the metaverse era ▲ Science and technology and ESG in the era of climate change.
In the 'Research and Development Achievements' category, six news items were selected: ▲ Development of the dedicated platform 'E-GMP' that enhanced the competitiveness of domestic electric vehicles ▲ Elucidation of the principle by which cancer cells evade immune cell attacks ▲ Construction of the world's largest 3D cancer genome map ▲ Development of QLED that folds freely like origami ▲ Diagnosis of prostate cancer in 20 minutes through urine test ▲ Implementation of the brightest light ever by the 4th generation synchrotron radiation accelerator.

The Top 10 Science News of the Year were selected through a complex process reflecting the opinions of experts and the general public. Based on about 270 science and technology news items, candidate news items were chosen through preliminary discussions and deliberations by the selection committee to be voted on. Then, online and mobile voting was conducted for 12 days from the 9th to the 20th of this month. A total of 13,227 people participated in the vote, of which 29% (3,839 people) were science and technology professionals, and 71% (9,388 people) were general public. The final selection results reflected 60% of the selection committee's evaluation and 40% of the online and mobile voting results, respectively.
