Hanwha Systems, Commercialization of High-Performance and Ultra-Lightweight Military Satellite Communication
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Hanwha Systems has begun delivering dedicated ground terminals for satellite communications used by the South Korean military. The terminals are lighter than previous models, making them easier for soldiers to carry, and their transmission and reception speeds are dozens of times faster.
On the 29th, Hanwha Systems announced that the country’s first military-dedicated communication satellite, the ‘Military Satellite Communication System-II,’ can transmit and receive high-capacity data. The terminal’s shape has been changed from a disc to a flat panel, allowing soldiers to carry it like a backpack while on the move.
Starting with the delivery of this portable satellite terminal, Hanwha Systems plans to sequentially operationalize portable and transportable terminals and network control systems by March 2024. Notably, this delivery shortened the operational deployment of the Military Satellite Communication System-II from a five-year plan to three years. Through this, the system, which features improved functions such as △information processing speed △radio interference countermeasures △communication range, will be utilized ahead of schedule, enabling the military to quickly acquire its first dedicated satellite communication capability.
The ‘Military Satellite Communication System-II’ replaces the previously operational ‘Military Satellite Communication System’ and is an efficient military-dedicated satellite-based communication system capable of △large-capacity data transmission △high-speed anti-jamming (radio interference countermeasure) links △integrated voice and data transmission operations across all military branches, meeting the demands of future battlefield environments.
