Gyeonggi-do Achieves Major Success in Elementary School Dental Care Program... 229,000 Students Screened
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] It has been reported that a total of approximately 220,000 students utilized the 'Elementary School Student Dental Primary Care Project' conducted by Gyeonggi Province this year.
On the 29th, Gyeonggi Province announced that 229,000 students, which is 88.4% of the 259,000 eligible elementary school students in the province, used the 'Elementary School Student Dental Primary Care Project' that provides free dental preventive care for elementary school students in the province.
The Elementary School Student Dental Primary Care Project was introduced in 2019 by then-Governor Lee Jae-myung of Gyeonggi Province (currently the Democratic Party presidential candidate). It is a program where 4th-grade elementary school children, at a stage when permanent teeth alignment is completed and oral health management is highly effective, can receive free oral examinations, oral health education, and preventive treatment at designated dental medical institutions.
Considering that the project could not be carried out in the previous year due to COVID-19, the province expanded the target to include 5th-grade elementary school students, promoting the project for 259,000 children aged 10 to 11, including out-of-school youth and unregistered migrant children.
As the number of eligible participants increased, the number of designated medical institutions was expanded by adding 175 locations, totaling 1,923 institutions.
In particular, considering the COVID-19 situation, infection prevention measures such as online oral health education and a prior reservation system were implemented, and the project was conducted from June to November.
