According to the Fire Headquarters' statistics, from December last year to February this year, 2,679 patients with fall accidents, 70 patients with hypothermia, and 45 intoxicated risk patients were transported to hospitals.
The headquarters stated that many cases involve people putting their hands in their pockets while walking, falling and injuring their face, arms, or legs, or falling on icy roads and injuring their waist or hips.
During the year-end and New Year period, frequent drinking gatherings such as year-end parties and New Year parties increase the risk of hypothermia when exposed to cold outdoor air for a long time while intoxicated, and the risk of falling on icy roads also rises, so extra caution is necessary.
They emphasized not to put hands in pockets even if it is cold, to wear gloves, and to wear shoes with low heels and walk with short steps on icy roads.
It was advised to avoid snowy roads, icy roads, and black ice as much as possible, and stretching before going out helps relax muscle stiffness and prevent fall accidents.
Kim Jong-geun, the head of the headquarters, said, “In winter, temperatures drop sharply in the morning and evening, so unexpected icy roads may appear, so be extra careful,” and added, “I hope everyone spends the cold season safely.”
