US Biden: "If Healthy, Will Run for Next Presidential Election... Naturally Running Against Trump"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] Joe Biden, the 79-year-old President of the United States, has expressed his intention to run for re-election in the 2024 presidential election.
On the 22nd (local time), President Biden answered "Yes" when asked in an interview with ABC's "World News Tonight" whether he plans to seek a second term. He said, "I am a person who accepts fate. Fate has intervened in my life several times," adding, "If I am healthy, and I am healthy now, I will run again."
In particular, President Biden made it clear that he would run even if the next presidential election is a rematch against former President Donald Trump, whom he faced in the previous election. Smiling, he said, "I am being tempted right now," and added, "Why wouldn't I run against Donald Trump? In fact, the prospects of running would be even higher."
President Biden was inaugurated earlier this year as the oldest president in U.S. history. ABC reported that questions about his bid for re-election have followed him throughout his term. Controversies regarding Biden's health were also raised during the previous election.
The interview took place amid the rapid spread of the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the United States. The day before, President Biden announced measures to combat the spread of Omicron, including the free distribution of 500 million self-test kits, in a national address.

In the interview, he acknowledged that the national response to COVID-19 testing was "not sufficient," but mentioned that efforts to combat COVID-19 are being strengthened through expanded vaccination. He emphasized, "Now, 200 million people have completed vaccination. They are also receiving booster shots."
