Announcement of the Top 50 Outstanding Achievements in the Ministry of Education's Academic and Research Support Projects
Award Ceremony and Presentation for Outstanding Achievements Held on the 16th
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Ministry of Education announced that it has selected the 'Top 50 Outstanding Achievements in Academic and Research Support Projects' and will hold an awards ceremony and performance presentation on the 16th.
Since 2006, the Ministry of Education has annually discovered and awarded outstanding achievements. This year, out of 24,276 results, 138 candidate projects were submitted, and a total of 50 were finally selected.
In the humanities and social sciences field, 'Revisiting North Korean Literature through Media,' involving Professor Kim Seongsu of Sungkyunkwan University, was selected. The project highlighted the historicity of North Korea's language, culture, and media centered on the representative literary magazine of North Korean literature, Chosun Literature.
Professor Kim Jaein of Kyung Hee University was also selected for 'Philosophy of the New Normal: An Intellectual Foundation for Building an Era of Great Transformation.' Recognized for proposing humanities concepts such as 'communalism' and 'new liberal arts' from the perspective of global cooperation and solidarity in response to the rapidly changing society due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the Korean studies field, Professor Erin Aeran Chung of Johns Hopkins University was selected for her research comparing and analyzing immigration integration policies and citizenship-related systems of three East Asian countries?Japan, Korea, and Taiwan?under the concept of 'citizen heritage.'
In the science and engineering field, Professor Kim Heetak of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology developed the world's longest-lasting non-flammable aqueous battery for ESS, and Professor Oh Hyundong of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology developed a technique using multiple unmanned mobile units to locate sources of harmful substance emissions in the atmosphere. Both researches were selected as outstanding achievements.

The Ministry of Education grants additional points to researchers recognized for outstanding achievements when selecting new projects under the Ministry's academic and research support programs. The outstanding achievements will be compiled into a casebook by February 2022 and distributed to universities and research institutions nationwide, as well as posted on the Korea Research Foundation's online performance exhibition hall.
