[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A man in his 20s who won a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics was arrested by the police for assaulting a taxi driver.
The Yuseong Police Station in Daejeon announced on the 15th that athlete A was booked on charges of assaulting a taxi driver on a road in Banseok-dong, Yuseong-gu, around 1 a.m.
A was reportedly intoxicated when he got into the taxi and assaulted the taxi driver inside the stopped taxi without any reason when asked about the destination.
A police official said, "Since a proper investigation has not yet been conducted, it is unclear whether the charge of assaulting the driver will be applied," and added, "The decision on detention will be made after the investigation of A."
