Through the appeal letter, Mayor Yoo Jin-seop said, "About 40 days after the phased recovery measures, the number of confirmed cases nationwide has exceeded 7,000, marking an all-time high," and added, "Many confirmed cases are occurring daily in the city and province, so it cannot be considered safe."
He continued, "The emergence of the fast-spreading Omicron variant has intensified the crisis, creating a serious situation where the worst-case scenario could occur," and urged, "Please refrain as much as possible from large-scale events or gatherings during the year-end and New Year holidays, as well as private meetings."
He also requested, "Make mask-wearing and handwashing a daily habit, and if you have symptoms such as fever or cough, please visit the screening clinic established at the Jeongeup City Health Center for diagnostic testing."
In particular, he urged seniors aged 60 and over to receive additional vaccinations promptly, as they can get them without reservations starting three months after their second dose, and appealed for active participation from citizens who have not yet been vaccinated.
He added, "The past two years of experiencing COVID-19 have been truly difficult for everyone," and expressed gratitude for the citizens' active cooperation with social distancing and quarantine measures.
Mayor Yoo Jin-seop stated, "We have a stronger will and hope than the virus," and asked, "Let us once again gather the strength of all citizens to overcome COVID-19 and return together to a normal daily life."
