Genesis Unveils 4th Generation 'Giham' G90... Contracts Begin on the 17th
The Most Elegant Exterior Among All Genesis Models "A New Direction for Luxury Cars"
Sedan 89.57 Million KRW, Long Wheelbase 165.57 Million KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Genesis brand announced on the 14th that it will start accepting orders for the 4th generation G90 flagship sedan from the 17th. Genesis plans to present a new direction for luxury cars with the G90, which integrates various technologies such as dignified interior and exterior design befitting its top-tier sedan and advanced driving assistance technologies.
The Most Elegant Exterior Among All Genesis Models
The G90 features a dignified design with an exterior that emphasizes elegance at the pinnacle of Genesis's design philosophy of 'Dynamic Elegance.' The front end is characterized by a new crest grille and sleek dual-line lamps that form the Genesis emblem, a parabolic line that gives the impression of a luxury sedan, thin and long dual-line rear lamps, and a stable rear end.
The front crest grille applies a 'Layered Architecture' with two staggered layers of G-Matrix patterns stacked three-dimensionally, enhancing the sense of luxury. Additionally, the headlamps located on both sides of the grille feature the thinnest dual-line design introduced by Genesis.
To achieve this, Genesis introduced MLA (Micro Lens Array) technology in the G90's low beams and arranged lenses for low beam, daytime running, and high beam in a cross pattern. Each module of the low beam applies about 200 micro-optic lenses, reducing lens size compared to previous models to enhance design completeness while maintaining equivalent light output.
Furthermore, the hood and fender are composed as a single panel, completing visual simplicity with a clamshell hood, and the 'Guilloch? Pattern Emblem,' whose thickness is reduced by nearly 80% to minimize protrusions, creates the image of a top-tier luxury sedan.
On the sides, the 'Parabolic Line' starts from the hood and continues along the lower edge of the windows to the trunk, harmonizing with the 'Athletic Power Line' of the fender wrapping the wheels to create a strong and dynamic body volume. The rear also features the dual-line rear combination lamps, a core element of Genesis design, with the Genesis lettering emblem neatly placed between them.
Based on the Beauty of Emptiness... Harmonizing Analog and Digital Sensibilities Inside
The interior of the G90 is designed to accommodate both owner-drivers and chauffeur-driven customers. The driver's seat pursues a harmony of advanced technology devices with an image of new technology applied based on Genesis's interior design philosophy of the beauty of emptiness, combined with analog sensibility in the details.
The front interior features slim air vents extending lengthwise, above which a wing-shaped sculpture appears to float, differentiated by material and color. Additionally, the cluster and navigation are connected through a panoramic display in the next-generation infotainment system (ccIC), creating a high-tech image alongside the wing-shaped sculpture.
The center console controls use a harmonious combination of glass and aluminum materials to express a luxurious analog sensibility. The textures of the parts within the driver's reach are designed differently so that the driver can intuitively distinguish between the electronic shift-by-wire (SBW) and dial-type central control panel (CCP) during driving. The SBW provides haptic vibration during initial and repeated reverse gear operations to prevent misoperation.
The rear seat space applies premium materials suitable for a large sedan, offering a comfortable and cozy feeling. Notably, even in the standard 5-seat configuration, the left and right seats are designed to adjust their recline angles independently, enhancing rear passenger convenience.
Genesis created a luxurious atmosphere in the G90 with new garnishes and colors. The 'Newspaper Crown Wood' and 'Newspaper Stripe Wood' applied in the G90 are made by reprocessing waste paper discarded in daily life, such as newspapers, using a new method that minimizes environmental impact, reflecting Genesis's philosophy of sustainable luxury.
The 'Metal G-Matrix Pattern Garnish,' applied for the first time by Genesis, is a decoration inspired by the traditional Korean craft of inlay technique. It is engraved in real metal with the Genesis signature dual lines and G-Matrix on ash wood or forged carbon materials applied to the door trims, maximizing the sense of luxury.
The G90 is available in a total of 12 exterior colors, including new colors such as Hallasan Green, Capri Blue, Bariloche Brown, Valencia Gold, and Maui Black, as well as Makalu Gray, Beak Black, Tasman Blue, Seville Silver, Uyuni White, Makalu Gray Matte (matte), and Verbier White (matte). The interior offers five color combinations: Obsidian Black monotone, Bordeaux Brown/Obsidian Black two-tone, Glacier White/Urban Brown two-tone, Modern Gray/Galaxy Black two-tone, and Dune Beige/Velvet Burgundy two-tone.
Driving Feel and Advanced Technology Befitting a Flagship... Evolved OTA Technology Applied
The G90 is equipped with a gasoline 3.5 turbo engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission, delivering a maximum output of 380 horsepower (PS) and a maximum torque of 54.0 kgf·m. The 3.5 turbo engine achieves a combined fuel efficiency of 9.3 km/l through a dual-fuel injection system that optimally injects fuel according to driving conditions and a water-cooled intercooler that quickly cools the air entering the engine to improve acceleration response.
Additionally, a brake mode was added to adjust brake feel according to the driver's driving style. Customers can choose from three modes, including 'Chauffeur Mode,' which provides comfortable braking for rear-seat passengers, as well as Comfort and Sport modes.
Genesis applied new suspension and technologies to the G90 to secure smooth ride comfort and handling (R&H) performance that flagship sedan customers expect. The G90 comes standard with a preview electronic controlled suspension that optimally controls the suspension by recognizing road surface information ahead through a front camera and navigation data. This enables refined body movement and excellent ride comfort, ensuring stable and comfortable body behavior during high-speed cornering.
The G90 also features a function that optimally controls the air suspension by recognizing speed bumps, slopes, and rough roads. This function adjusts the suspension damping based on front camera and navigation information to provide a comfortable ride for customers.
The G90 boasts the brand's highest level of quietness befitting a luxury sedan. Genesis standardizes its most advanced noise reduction technology, Active Road Noise Control (ANC-R), in the G90. This technology emits sound waves with opposite phase frequencies of road noise through speakers to enhance interior quietness during driving. Moreover, the frequency sensitivity of all seats is individually measured and analyzed, and the vehicle structure is reinforced or modified where improvements are needed, with extensive use of sound-absorbing materials in key body areas.
Genesis applied numerous latest convenience technologies to the G90 to provide a new automated experience from the moment customers approach the vehicle until they exit. When the driver carrying the smart key approaches the G90, the 'Auto Flush Door Handle,' hidden inside the door, automatically emerges to welcome the driver.
The G90 allows keyless start and driving through a 'Fingerprint Authentication System' applied to the center console. It also automatically loads personalized settings such as infotainment preferences and can be used as an authentication method linked to the infotainment system for in-car payments or valet mode deactivation.
Genesis Digital Key 2's low-power Bluetooth (BLE) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) functions will be updated wirelessly (OTA) in the future. Additionally, evolved wireless (OTA) update technology is applied, enabling software updates for major electronic control units such as navigation, cluster, head-up display, brakes, steering wheel, suspension, airbags, and advanced driver assistance systems without visiting a service center, keeping the vehicle always up to date.
Long Wheelbase Model Also Introduced... Differentiated Experience with Private Showrooms
The G90 Long Wheelbase features a 190 mm longer overall length than the sedan, expanding the rear door and C-pillar to secure a more spacious interior. It is notable for applying Genesis's first gasoline 3.5 turbo engine with a 48V electric supercharger (e-S/C).
The gasoline 3.5 turbo 48V e-S/C engine in the G90 Long Wheelbase boosts compressed air once more via a motor at low engine rpm ranges, advancing the maximum torque delivery point compared to the 3.5 turbo engine and improving acceleration response at low and medium speeds. The G90 Long Wheelbase is offered only in 4WD configuration and comes standard with multi-chamber air suspension and a rear-wheel steering system.
The exterior completes a more prominent side presence with 20-inch exclusive wheels, a parabolic-shaped window line (DLO), and chrome material applied to the B-pillar, differentiating the design from the sedan with exclusive front and rear bumpers. The interior enhances luxury with quilted seats made of premium semi-aniline leather and adds a left rear leg rest.
Meanwhile, Genesis brand will operate private showrooms for G90 customers from the 17th to the 10th of next month at Genesis Gangnam, Genesis Suji, Busan Haeundae, Daegu Artplex, and Gwangju Kim Dae-jung Convention Center.
The private showrooms provide a differentiated space where customers can experience the G90 first-hand, see actual vehicles in various colors, and experience the Genesis brand's philosophy and technology through professional and detailed explanations. The selling price of the G90 is 89.57 million KRW for the sedan and 165.57 million KRW for the long wheelbase.
