Gwangyang City, 'Well-Prepared Gwangyang Bulgogi Feast' Gourmet Tourism Branding
Targeting Floating Population at Incheon International Airport, KTX Busan Station, and Seobusan Terminal
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City in Jeonnam has embarked on branding gourmet tourism, which acts as a key factor in travel motivation and is emerging as a new tourism trend.
The city set up a "Well-Prepared Gwangyang Bulgogi Table" using LED billboards at high-traffic locations such as Incheon International Airport, KTX Busan Station, and West Busan Terminal, targeting the winter vacation and year-end seasons.
The "Well-Prepared Gwangyang Bulgogi Table" is an image neatly arranged with Gwangyang's representative dish, Gwangyang Bulgogi, filled with the warmth of the southern region, expected to stimulate the five senses of potential tourists.
Gwangyang Bulgogi is a dish where thinly sliced beef is grilled over a copper grate with charcoal fired in a bronze brazier, boasting a deep flavor so renowned it is called "Cheonhailmi Marohwajeok (天下一味 馬老火炙)"?the best taste under heaven.
“Maro” is the old name of Gwangyang, and “Cheonhailmi Marohwajeok” means “the most delicious food in the world is Gwangyang Bulgogi,” proving the taste and reputation of Gwangyang Bulgogi.
Gwangyang, the city of light and sunshine?the sources of life?has developed grilled dishes such as Gwangyang Bulgogi, Gwangyang Chicken Charcoal Grill, Gwangyang Eel Grill, and Grilled Gizzard Shad. Additionally, it is a city rich in seasonal delicacies like freshwater clams, cherry oysters, Gwangyang Gijeongtteok (rice cake), and plum tea.
The city plans to continuously develop and operate gourmet tourism courses linking Gwangyang’s beautiful landscapes such as Baegunsan Mountain, Seomjin River, and Gwangyang Bay with its unique local foods.
Park Soon-gi, Director of Tourism, said, “We have attractively presented Gwangyang Bulgogi to potential tourists at busy places such as airports, bus terminals, and railway stations,” adding, “Gwangyang offers a safe and healthy travel experience where visitors can enjoy spaciousness, romance, and satisfy all five senses.”
He continued, “We plan to brand and actively promote Gwangyang as a food city by developing tourism products that combine gourmet cuisine made from diverse ingredients provided by Gwangyang’s mountains, rivers, and sea with its beautiful scenery.”
Meanwhile, Gwangyang City is also continuing comprehensive promotional strategies to enhance the image of Gwangyang tourism, including mobile tourist information centers and SNS events.
