KT&G Welfare Foundation Provides 650 Million KRW in Heating Support to Energy-Vulnerable Groups
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] KT&G Welfare Foundation announced on the 1st that it will provide heating cost support worth a total of 650 million KRW to more than 3,300 energy-vulnerable households in Seoul and the metropolitan area.
KT&G Welfare Foundation has been providing heating fuel such as kerosene and briquettes, as well as city gas fees, annually to low-income families who have difficulty heating due to economic hardships during the winter cold wave. This support project for vulnerable groups started in 2005 and has continued for 17 years, with the total support amount reaching approximately 10.6 billion KRW to date.
Recipients will be able to use the support amount within a limit of 200,000 KRW per household until March next year. To facilitate this, KT&G Welfare Foundation prepaid the necessary costs through prior contracts with fuel vendors such as gas stations and city gas companies. Additionally, KT&G employee volunteer groups conducted briquette sharing volunteer activities for two days starting from the 29th for households with poor heating facilities where briquette stockpiling is essential.
A Welfare Foundation official stated, “We hope that neighbors struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic can spend a warmer winter with this heating cost support,” and added, “We will continue to make efforts to improve energy welfare for marginalized groups and enhance quality of life through various sharing activities.”
