Seoul Passenger Car Mileage Automated by Linking Hyundai Motor Group Vehicle Driving Data... "Eliminating Manual Inconvenience"
‘Agreement on Establishing Advanced Passenger Car Mileage Infrastructure through Connected Car Data Integration’
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government is jointly working with Hyundai Motor Group, the largest automobile company in Korea, to establish an advanced foundation for the ‘Passenger Car Mileage’ program. Passenger Car Mileage is a voluntary citizen participation program by Seoul to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by decreasing car travel distances.
On the 26th, Seoul announced that it will improve the ‘Passenger Car Mileage’ certification system through cooperation with Hyundai Motor Group. The system will link Hyundai Motor Group’s connected car (smart car) latest driving data with the Passenger Car Mileage service to automatically track how much driving distance has been reduced.
Once this system is established, data from Hyundai Motor Group’s connected car users’ Data Hub app will be automatically linked to Seoul’s ‘Passenger Car Mileage’ system, eliminating the need for citizens to manually certify their reduced driving distances. The system is expected to be implemented as early as the first quarter of next year.
Seoul anticipates that this will improve the inconvenience of manual registration, which was one of the improvements citizens pointed out for the Passenger Car Mileage system. Furthermore, it is expected to contribute to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 by encouraging voluntary citizen participation in greenhouse gas reduction and fostering an eco-friendly mobility ecosystem.
On the same day, Seoul signed a business agreement with Hyundai Motor Group at Seoul City Hall titled ‘Establishing an Advanced Foundation for Passenger Car Mileage through Seoul-Hyundai Motor Group Connected Car Data Linkage’ based on these contents.
Through this agreement, Seoul will actively support participation from citizens and companies to realize ‘2050 Carbon Neutrality.’ Hyundai Motor Group aims to lead ESG management by creating an eco-friendly mobility ecosystem using excellent data-based technology. Additionally, both organizations agreed to introduce and promote Passenger Car Mileage and Data Hub on each system to ensure no citizens miss out on joining due to lack of information. The systems will be linked through each platform.
Moreover, Hyundai Motor Group plans to actively participate in voluntary citizen participation greenhouse gas reduction programs promoted by Seoul, such as ‘Eco Mileage’ and the ‘Seoul is Amazed’ campaign.
