Gokseong-gun Holds Meeting to Strengthen Communication in Forest Administration
Listening to Forestry Workers' On-Site Voices for Enhancing Forest Income
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yoo Geun-gi) announced on the 25th that it held forest organization meetings over two days on the 17th and 23rd to strengthen communication with forestry workers and enhance forestry competitiveness.
About 20 people, including forestry successors and independent foresters, attended the two meetings.
At the meeting, Gokseong-gun provided information on the achievements of forest-related tasks and new policies for forestry workers, and discussed directions for developing forest income with the forestry workers.
On this day, Gokseong-gun gave detailed guidance on the implementation schedule of the Forestry Public Interest Direct Payment System, which is scheduled to be implemented from 2022.
In particular, they urged forestry workers to register as agricultural management entities for forest land, a mandatory condition for receiving direct payments, so that they can benefit from the payments.
They then listened to the field difficulties of forestry workers and discussed ways for the county and forestry workers to cooperate to increase forest income. Forestry workers emphasized the need for active support considering the actual difficulties in the forestry field.
They also agreed that it is necessary to continuously seek development plans by frequently listening to the opinions of forestry workers.
The Gokseong-gun side responded that they will listen carefully to the vivid voices of forestry workers and actively strive to create forest income.
More than 72% of Gokseong-gun is covered by forests, and the number of professional forestry workers is 211, which is a relatively high ratio compared to other cities and counties. However, due to the public nature of forests, forestry workers are in a relatively disadvantaged position in income-centered policies compared to agriculture or fisheries.
A county official stated, “We will continue to promote meetings with forestry workers based on this meeting and review various opinions from the field to work hard for income creation for forestry workers and forest development.”
