Jeonju Area University Students' Relay Blood Donation 'A Breath of Relief for Blood Supply Shortage'
434 Participants in Relay Blood Donation Campaign at 6 Universities... 4 to 5 Times More Than Usual
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Amid a significant decrease in blood reserves due to COVID-19, university students in the Jeonju area have contributed to alleviating the blood supply shortage through a relay blood donation campaign.
Jeonju City announced on the 24th that a total of 434 university students participated in the relay blood donation campaign held at six universities in the Jeonju area, including Jeonju University, since the 3rd, which is 4 to 5 times the usual number.
This relay blood donation campaign by university students was the first project following the ESG joint practice agreement signed last month between Jeonju City and six universities. It started at Jeonju University on the 3rd and proceeded in rotation through Jeonbuk National University, Jeonju National University of Education, Jesus University, Jeonju Kijeon University, and Jeonju Vision University.
Student councils from each university used SNS tailored to the MZ generation's perspective to encourage blood donation and operated blood donation promotion booths on campus as part of the campaign.
As a result, a total of 434 people participated in the relay blood donation campaign, including 146 from Jeonbuk National University, 114 from Jeonju University, 76 from Jeonju Vision University, and 98 from Jeonju National University of Education, Jesus University, and Jeonju Kijeon University.
A representative from the Jeonbuk Blood Center explained that, in a situation where university students' participation in blood donation had been sluggish due to COVID-19, this relay blood donation campaign recorded 4 to 5 times the usual participation.
Going forward, Jeonju City plans to award commendations to the student councils of the six universities in the Jeonju area next month to encourage their efforts in the blood donation campaign and will seek cooperation to ensure continuous blood donation is carried out independently by the universities.
Meanwhile, Jeonju City is preparing to amend the 'Jeonju City Blood Donation Promotion Ordinance,' which focuses on activating blood donation and supporting blood donors, to resolve the blood supply shortage through citizens' solidarity and cooperation. After completing the pre-legislative procedures this year, the revised ordinance will be submitted to the council early next year.
