Selected Companies to Receive Benefits Such as Technology Commercialization and Patent Applications
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Kim] SK Ecoplant announced on the 24th that it held the '2021 ConTech Meetup Day' awards ceremony at its headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and selected eight final companies.
This contest was a program jointly promoted with the Research & Development Special Zone Promotion Foundation and the Smart Construction Support Center of the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology. The purpose was to discover domestic SMEs with innovative technology ideas in smart construction and eco-friendly and renewable energy fields and to support their research and development.
The awards ceremony was attended by Kyungil Park, President of SK Ecoplant; Byungsam Kang, Chairman of the Research & Development Special Zone Promotion Foundation; Yoonchul Lim, CEO of Technology and Value; and Kyungho Jin, Director of the Smart Construction Support Center at the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology.
A total of 88 technologies were submitted in the fields of eco-friendly, renewable energy, and smart construction for this contest. SK Ecoplant comprehensively considered the excellence of the technology, business feasibility, and potential for joint development, conducting document screening and presentation evaluations to select outstanding companies. The selected detailed technologies include △5 in eco-friendly △1 in renewable energy △1 in smart construction △1 in construction method improvement, totaling eight.
Among the companies selected in the eco-friendly field, KCM Tech produces glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) reinforcement bars that are one-quarter the weight and twice the strength of conventional rebar using eco-friendly new materials. It is attracting attention as an eco-friendly construction material because it emits more than 40% less carbon dioxide than when producing conventional rebar. Carbon Value was selected as an excellent eco-friendly technology for presenting a groundbreaking technology that captures carbon dioxide generated during fuel cell electricity production and regenerates it into energy. Selected companies will be provided with various benefits such as technology commercialization and patent applications depending on the technology field.
