Wando-gun Completes Second Year Project for Seomjari Forest Trail Trekking Course

Today, a total of 110.2 km courses established in Cheongsan, Geumdang, and Saengil

[Wando＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyungpil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) has completed the second-year phase of the ‘Wando Seomjari Forest Trail Trekking Course Development Project,’ which utilizes Wando’s unique forest and marine tourism resources where forests, sea, and islands harmonize.

The ‘Wando Seomjari Forest Trail Trekking Course’ is being promoted over three years from 2020 to 2022, creating various types of courses such as forest trails, village paths, and urban roads so that people can enjoy the beautiful forest and coastal scenery of the 12 towns and townships of Wando while improving their health.

The second-year project section completed this time covers 110.2 km in Geumil-eup, Cheongsan-myeon, Geumdang-myeon, and Saengil-myeon, centered around Geumil Myeongsasimni Beach, Geumdang’s 8 scenic spots, and Saengil Baegunsan Mountain.

The first-year project section includes five towns and townships: Wando-eup, Gunoe-myeon, Sinji-myeon, Gogeum-myeon, and Yaksan-myeon.

In the third year, a 102.6 km trekking course will be created in Nohwa-eup, Soan-myeon, and Bogil-myeon, and 500 million KRW has been secured for the 2022 project to proceed with detailed design services.

Upon completion of the third-year project, the Wando Seomjari Forest Trail Trekking Course will extend approximately 220 km, providing a differentiated forest recreation service unique to Wando compared to other regions.

Park Eun-jae, Director of the Environment and Forestry Division, said, “Once the Seomjari Forest Trail Trekking Course is completed, it will not only promote the health of residents and tourists but also serve as a good foundation for our county to become a central hub for forest and marine healing industries.”
