Chonnam National University Graduate Student Presents IoT Control Method for People with Disabilities

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Chonnam National University announced on the 22nd that doctoral student Lee Joo-hwan received the 'President Award of the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation' in the student creative autonomous project category at the 'ICT Colloquium 2021' event.
Doctoral student Lee Joo-hwan of Chonnam National University (Urban Disaster and Disaster Response Smart System Research Center, supervised by Professor Kim Jin-young) presented a creative autonomous project titled "Home IoT Device Control through Deep Learning-Based Gesture Recognition for People with Disabilities," earning this award.
Graduate student Lee Joo-hwan's research enables people with disabilities, who face many restrictions within their residences due to mobility issues, to control devices (IoT) in a simple way. By accumulating user motion data, it executes customized motion control, thereby enhancing convenience.
The student creative autonomous projects of ICT Colloquium 2021 aimed to discover ideas and foster core research talents by evaluating and awarding the autonomous research results of students participating in the ICT Innovation Talent Development Project. A total of 70 student creative autonomous projects were submitted from 32 universities nationwide.
The event was held on the 16th, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation and the University Information and Communications Research Center Council.
