Seongdong-gu 'Taejo Yi Seonggye Festival' Becomes a Communicative Space Leading Community Unity
Seonggye Festival Successfully Concludes with Online Relay Lighting Ceremony for Overcoming COVID-19... A Time of Sharing Hope and Enjoyment through COVID-19 Resolution Events and Various Performances with Residents
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that the ‘2021 Taejo Yi Seong-gye Festival,’ held at Seongsu Art Hall on the 14th, successfully concluded as a venue for communication that led to community harmony.
Under the theme “Together Again, Shining the Light of Hope,” this festival combined the historical figure ‘Yi Seong-gye’ with the theme of ‘hunting,’ delivering various events with a message of overcoming difficulties together.
The festival began with a performance by the Seongdong-gu Dream Orchestra, followed by a musical gala and a fusion gugak band performance. The event continued with the award ceremony for the COVID-19 overcoming video contest winners and the lighting ceremony of hope. The recitation of hopeful messages by the Seongdong Literary Association and the prize-winning students of the writing contest fostered empathy to overcome everyone’s hardships once again, and the festival concluded with a performance by Bicycle Riding Scenery, creating a space for enjoyment and harmony.
Broadcast live on the Seongdong-gu Office YouTube channel, the event received great response with over 3,500 views. Notably, recipients of the Seongdong Citizen Award, essential workers, and other distinguished community members participated, adding luster to the occasion.
The ‘Taejo Yi Seong-gye Festival’ is a unique local festival of Seongdong-gu that utilizes the historical figure ‘Yi Seong-gye’ and the treasure No. 1738 ‘Salgoti Bridge,’ where an arrow shot by Yi Seong-gye at Yi Bang-won missed and lodged, later called Salgoti Field. It has been a place for all residents to communicate and harmonize every year.
This year, the festival was organized as an online and offline event accessible to anyone, anywhere, creating a non-face-to-face communication space. Through a paradigm shift from an animal hunting festival to a festival hunting the COVID-19 virus, it conveyed recovery and hope for residents and prepared them for a return to daily life.
