On the 18th, Lotte Duty Free announced that it has completed the installation of solar power facilities at its No. 1 Integrated Logistics Center in Yeongjongdo, Incheon, and has begun full-scale operation. Lotte Duty Free is the first in the domestic duty-free industry to install solar power facilities at a logistics center.
After starting construction in September this year, Lotte Duty Free completed the solar power facility installation over approximately two months by early this month. It then passed the final pre-use inspection conducted by the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation and began operation. Considering space efficiency, Lotte Duty Free installed 2,240 solar modules on the rooftop of the logistics center, which was previously unused space measuring about 13,223㎡ (approximately 4,000 pyeong). This area is equivalent to the size of two soccer fields combined.
The annual power generation capacity is 1,371 megawatts (mW), enough electricity to supply about 570 households for one year. Lotte Duty Free plans to replace about 67% of the electricity consumption at the No. 1 Integrated Logistics Center with solar energy. It is also expected to save approximately 200 million KRW annually and reduce carbon emissions by 630 tons.
Lotte Duty Free aims to build an eco-friendly duty-free logistics system by additionally introducing solar power facilities at the No. 2 Integrated Logistics Center. Lee Gap, CEO of Lotte Duty Free, said, "Along with the completion of the solar power facilities, we plan to make continuous investments to create an eco-friendly logistics environment," adding, "Lotte Duty Free will strive to achieve sustainable management throughout all business processes."
