This is because President Moon Jae-in is strongly determined to focus on public welfare in his final term, and there is a risk that it could be perceived as election interference.
A Blue House official, when asked by reporters on the 16th about the escalating conflicts between the ruling party and the government, said, "We will harmoniously coordinate opinions between the ruling party and the government," but refrained from elaborating. Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, and the Democratic Party insist on increasing the budget to provide the quarantine support fund to all citizens, but the financial authorities have opposed this, citing fiscal standards and principles. There is also a division of opinion between the ruling party and the government regarding the "postponement of virtual asset taxation," which candidate Lee pledged to win the youth vote.
As conflicts between the ruling party and the government escalate to the point where the Democratic Party even mentions a National Assembly audit of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, there are voices saying, "Shouldn't the Blue House resolve the situation?" However, the Blue House maintains the position that "the ball is in the National Assembly's court." This is quite different from last April when President Moon actively mediated during the first disaster relief fund payment dispute between the ruling party and the government. At that time, President Moon supported the ruling party, citing reasons such as "the livelihood of struggling citizens" and "stimulating consumption."
The opposition party defines the quarantine support fund promoted by the Democratic Party as "Lee Jae-myung's election support fund" and is sharpening its scrutiny. On the 15th, Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party presidential candidate, requested President Moon's "election neutrality" during an event where he received a congratulatory flower stand from Lee Cheol-hee, the Blue House Senior Secretary for Political Affairs.
