'Opening of the Korea Industrial Technology R&D Expo'
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The '2021 Korea Industrial Technology R&D Expo,' showcasing excellent research results (R&D) supported by the government, opened on the 17th.
The event, held until the 19th, features 247 outstanding industrial technology R&D products created under the support of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, introduced through both online and offline exhibition halls.
The online exhibition halls consist of a total of eight sections, including the Future Strategy Hall, Digital New Deal Hall, Materials, Parts and Equipment Hall, and Carbon Neutrality Hall, where 165 industry-academia-research organizations present 173 core technologies and products. A 3D online platform applying virtual reality (VR) technology was used to enhance the sense of presence.
The offline exhibition hall is set up on the first floor of COEX in Seoul, showcasing 745 selected core technologies from the online exhibits. Among the three exhibition halls, the 'Strategic Technology Hall' introduces 25 technologies in fields where Korea currently holds the highest competitiveness, such as semiconductors, machinery, materials, and bio. A representative example is Samsung Electronics' world-first FinFET-applied 14nm RF process technology.
At the 'Carbon Neutrality and Social Problem Solving Hall,' value-oriented technologies that can address pressing social issues, such as BGF Ecobio's 'biodegradable plastic,' are exhibited. The 'Future Challenge Hall' presents technologies that show the changed future vision brought by industrial technology innovation, such as Chung-Ang University's 'robot suit that covers 100 meters in 7 seconds.'
After the opening ceremony, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy awarded the Industrial Technology Promotion Merit Awards and the 2021 Korea Technology Awards to individuals and companies that have led domestic industrial development through world-class super-gap technology development. The Gold Tower Industrial Order was awarded to Kim Young-tae, CEO of SK Nexilis, who contributed to the development of the battery materials industry with the 'world's No.1 technology development of copper foil,' a core material of lithium-ion batteries.
